《一碗清湯蕎麥麵》栗良平
故事發生在札幌，一間「北海亭」的蕎麥麵店。日本除夕夜，有吃蕎麥麵的傳統。有一年，北海亭打烊前，有母親帶着兩個孩子進來，吞吞吐吐的說：清湯蕎麥麵，只叫一碗，可以嗎？老闆娘心裏明白，極力歡迎；老闆更是好心，用個半麵團優待這三母子。
第二年除夕，三母子又在打烊時分，滿足地分享一碗蕎麥麵，老闆娘像上賓般照呼，老闆再暗地用個半麵團，收150元的一碗價錢。
第三年除夕，蕎麥麵已漲價至200元，但老闆娘到打烊時分，悄悄換上150元的舊價，靜待三母子。
三母子真的來了，母親吞吐地說：清湯蕎麥麵，只叫兩碗，可以嗎？老闆娘熱烈歡迎，老闆卻用3個麵團，收兩碗300元的價錢。
老闆娘從談話中，知道更感人的故事：父親車禍傷了8人後身亡，母親每月要償還保險。於是，哥哥送報紙，弟弟做家務，母親全力工作，3年還清欠債。這個除夕，可以吃兩碗蕎麥麵。
往後，母子沒有再來。北海亭的老闆娘，仍在除夕打烊後，空着那張桌子。12年後，終於等到三母子，原來她們曾離開札幌。如今，孩子已長大，一個當醫生，一個任職銀行，但對北海亭的溫暖和蕎麥麵的懷念，永誌不忘。這一次，母子叫了3碗麵，艱難的日子終於過去了。
